6 CRUCIAL WEAVE TIPS

1) Spend more for good quality hair
Many women don’t realise that cheap synthetic hair extensions are actually damaging to your natural hair. Some cheap human hair extensions are mixed in with synthetic and animal hair which can irritate your scalp. Make sure you check the hair thoroughly before you buy and install it. If you are not sure what to look out for watch our YouTube video about how to spot fake hair.
Before installing your hair, wash it. This helps remove any insects or dust that can get caught in the wefts, which too can damage or irritate your natural hair follicles.

2. Stay the away from the glue
If you are not in good, professional hands then give the glue a miss. Yes, it may be relatively quick and easy to apply, but removal is a nightmare. Not only that but when you glue down your weave, the glue can suffocate the scalp and cause your natural hair to break at the roots because the hair can’t breathe.

3. Switch it up
Although a great weave may last about three to five years, it should only be worn for about 4-6 weeks and sometimes 8 weeks (at a time) depending on how fast your natural hair grows. After 6 weeks, your scalp needs to breathe, be thoroughly cleaned and moisturised! Wearing the same weave style for more than this time period without washing can lead to odours, itching, and even hair loss.

4. Care for your natural hair
It’s important to deep condition your natural hair before each installation. Your natural hair needs nutrition and moisture, without this, your natural hair will become dry and break. Traction alopecia is real and if you do not take the necessary steps to protect your natural hair, you can develop bald patches/spots and a receding hairline.

5. Don’t forget your scalp
Always wrap your hair in a silk scarf or satin bonnet before bed. Wear a sweat band while performing any physical activity that can cause you top sweat. Remember to wash and completely dry your scalp if there is any excessive sweat. Base your natural hair with hair food or a scalp treatments regularly, but be sure to keep the product away from the weave itself.

6. Rotate your weaves
It’s important to have more than one weave if you wear weaves more than other protectives styles. Good quality weaves are expensive, so you do not want to wear your hair out very soon. Rather circulate your weaves by wearing one style for 6 weeks and wearing other hair the for the next install.
