High quality hair vs low quality hair

Hello Beweavers,

New year, new hair. January can be financially tough for many, so often people take shortcuts on almost everything, to make up for splurges made over the festive season. High quality hair, however, is not a compromise or shortcut you can afford to make. Here are the difference between high-quality human hair and low-quality human hair, which need to know.

ALL HAIR MUST BE EQUAL in length.
High-quality hair will have relatively equal length strands of hair in each bundle. Sometimes the bundles may not look very big, but don’t be put off, hair bundles should weigh about 100 grammes per bundle (unless otherwise stated), so even though the bundle looks small the hair should still be good.

Low-quality hair usually has short, broken hair strands that are often collected from fallen hair and other donors. This is done to make the bundle look fuller, but bring on a lot of problems very soon after installation.

ICUTICLE ZIRIGHT
High-quality hair (each bundle) comes from one donor, intact cuticles (not chemically removed or processed) and all facing the same direction. This is crucial for a great hair experience because the hair will be less likely to shed and will not tangle or matt.

Low-quality hair will have cuticles facing a different direction because the hair is not from one donor. Mixed hair and cuticles will cause shedding (hair falling out), tangling and matting (hair getting stuck together). Often low-quality hair is coated with silicon and other chemicals, to give it shine and make it look silky and feel smooth, but the hair will usually reveal its true colours after two or three washes.

NO HARSH CHEMICALS
High-quality hair has little to no chemical processing done to it. Obviously, the hair needs to be washed and conditioned before it is sold, but the hair usually comes in its natural colour. It is not coloured, dyed, bleached or processed for texture (unless otherwise stated).

Low-quality hair may feel silky to the touch, but when you run your fingers through it because the hair has been chemically processed or texturized, the hair will feel coarse and you may have product residue on your hands after you have inspected the hair.

Low quality hair is high maintenance and ultimately cost more over time.

HAIR MAY NOT BE DYE FURTHER
High-quality hair has little to no chemical processing, so it can be coloured, dyed, bleached or even processed.

Low-quality hair is usually dyed to begin with, which may cause problems with bleaching and dying later.

LIFESPAN
High-quality hair will last anywhere between 2 – 5 years (depending on maintenance).

Low-quality hair will not last long after use. Usually a couple of months, sometimes as little as a couple of weeks.

BETTER IN TIME
High-quality hair gets better with every wash and low-quality hair does the opposite.

THE PRICE
Lastly, remember quality is not all about price. However, high-quality hair is usually more expensive than low-quality hair. It is important, however, to always do your research, go for known & reputable companies rather than pop up companies, because a lot of expensive hair can hold traits of lower-priced hair and vice versa.
